What is YOUR Motivation?

Motivation is the key.  Chances are you’d tell me to screw off if I told you we were saving all this money just so we can stare at account balances all day.  So....what the hell are we working for?.....that was a question for you.  What are you saving for?  The answer is different for everyone, so you tell me what the light at the tunnel looks like for you.

  • Do you want to lay in a bathtub full of money? (I safely assume everyone wants to do this?)
  • Pay off your student loan debt or credit card debt?
  • Replace some income and switch to a more enjoyable job (that might come with less pay)?
  • Work less to spend time with family?
  • Start a business?
  • Leave behind a fat inheritance?
  • Have the wedding of your dreams?
  • Buy a house?
  • Stop living paycheck to paycheck
  • Sleep better at night or lower stress?
  • Start a travel budget

We will all say different things and there is no wrong answer.  Usually when people use that phrase there is DEFINITELY a wrong answer, but I can’t think of anything that would be wrong in this case.  We need to keep goals in mind at all times to remain motivated.  See your future self accomplishing your goal with a new lease on life.  Chances are, you want that goal more than an extra Jameson shot at the bar, or the latte from Starbucks 3 times a week.  It’s at this point that we will have our AH-HAH! moment to get on track.  It should be noted that we don’t have to be fucking miserable while we work towards our goals.  Living on a budget isn’t about depriving ourselves of what makes us happy, it’s about not spending money on things that DON’T make us happy.  For me, I didn’t think going to bars and eating out was making me happier in life, and I prefer to save my money and hopefully knock a couple years off my career in the process….which will definitely make me happy.

Dividend Growth Investing works hand in hand with our goals.  Every month we make a deposit in our investment account, we see an additional dividend payment in the following months.  We see ourselves getting closer to our personal success, but first you must decide what the hell it is that you are working toward.

What are your goals? Short term? Long Term?
