Dividend Income – November 2016

posted in: Uncategorized | 5

Hi All,

Months seem to be flying by here, and December is almost upon us.  November was a first for me (and a pretty shitty one!) – my dividend income did NOT increase quarter over quarter due to some sells and some slow investing months during the summer.  No need to be highly critical of this – my wife and I have had a great couple of months and we have probably gladly traded some growth this month for some fun in late summer/early fall.  You can see based on my comments that I have sold a lot of these positions off, so we might be looking at another drop-off in February, with re-allocated money paying dividends on December/March/June/September schedule.

Month Dividends % Increase  Month Dividends % Increase  Month Dividends % Increase
01/2016
$77 –  02/2016 $168 –  03/2016 $436  –
04/2016
$106 37.6% 05/2016 $201 19.6% 06/2016 $585 34.2%
07/2016
$139 31.1% 08/2016 $256 27.4% 09/2016 $964 64.7%
10/2016
$237 70.5% 11/2016 $252 -1.5%

So here is what I’ve got for November:

Still no recession and we keep chugging along.  I’ve put a focus on building a core portfolio in recent weeks/months that will allow me a little less stress.  You can see that I’ve sold off a couple positions above that I considered higher risk.  Whenever the next recession DOES indeed hit, I hope to see less dividend cuts/reductions on account of these re-allocations.  For now, we look on to December, which should be a great month for both investing and collecting some dividends (maybe I join the 4 digit club?)!

Thank you for reading!

Very solid dividend income despite no quarter over quarter increase. Sometimes it’s ok to take a step back before you take a giant leap.

It may not have been your best month but you still brought in a pretty nice chunk of change passively. Are you done with the REITs in general? Curious to know why you want to sell out of OHI and HCP. Everything works in cycles and stocks fall in and out of favor every few years. It just happens. Do you not like real estate in general or just health REITs?
